Follow the Giro d’Italia

This is the most difficult of Grand Tours in the most beautiful country in the world!  Again, the 2015 Giro will include many difficult mountain stages making it virtually impossible to know the outcome prior to the last race day.  With Wilier Ways, you will witness live the most decisive stages of the Corsa Rosa (the Pink Race). We’ll ride trough 5 different italian regions: Veneto, Trentino, Lombardia, Valle D’Aosta and Piedmonti! We’ll ride on tons of Famous climbs and we’ll watch live 7 Giro stages: Prosecco time trial, Campiglio, Aprica, Verbania, Cervinia, Colle delle Finestre and Milano!
And thanks to Wilier you’ll meet the Colombia team before and after the stages! Book early as there are limited places.

Day One – Valdobbiadene Warm-up Ride

Main Route: 40km – 25mi
Total Ascent:  700m – 2300ft
Easy first day around the Prosecco hills.  Naturally there will be plenty of time to sample some of Italy’s most famous wine!

Day Two – Valdobbiadene to Trento
(Giro Stage)
Main Route: 95km – 53mi

Total Ascent: 1500m – 4950ft

Today we will watch the last few km’s of the time trial stage and then ride to the beautiful town of Trento.  Spectacular days ride, firstly in the wine growing region of Prosecco and then the Asiago Cheese area.  Very undulating terrain and ideal build up for the upcoming mountains.

Day Three – Trento to Madonna di Campiglio (Giro Stage)
Main Route: 85km – 53mi
Total Ascent: 2200m – 7200ft
Today we’ll get to see the last two climbs of this day’s Giro stage which finishes at Madonna di Campiglio where Marco Pantani took one of his last hill-top finishes.
A very important stage for the race, who will be the first on top?

Day Four – Madonna di Campiglio to Aprica
Main Route: 52km – 32mi
Total Ascent: 1750m – 5750ft
Rest day for the Giro but not for us!  We will ride to Aprica on the same route of tomorrow stage, climbing the Passo Tonale first.  But don’t worry we will leave the Mortirolo for for the the next day!

Day Five – Aprica loop to Mortirolo (Giro Stage)
Main Route: 85km – 54mi
Total Ascent: 1900m – 6200ft
Great ride as we’ll do the Mortirolo from the Monno (Edolo) side, in time to watch the Pro suffering on the last climb of the stage.  This side is not as hard as from the Mazzo side, but the Mortirolo is never easy! Exciting day!

Day Six – Aprica to Verbania (Giro Stage)
Main Route: 160km – 100mi
Total Ascent: 1400m – 4600ft
A long but relatively flat ride from the Alps to the beautiful lakes region. We’ll ride along Lago di Como, Lago di Lugano and Lago Maggiore following the race course to Lugano … where we will arrive before the pro’s.  Hopefully?!  Well, we have the option to jump in the van!!

Day Seven – Verbania loop to Piancavallo (Giro Stage)
Main Route: 80km – 50mi
Total Ascent: 1400m – 4600ft
A great loop ride up to Piancavallo, one of the most challenging climbs of this Giro! We will also have the option of watching the race drinking a Spritz in Verbania instead of climbing!

Day Eight – Verbania to Cervinia – transfer to Ivrea (Giro Stage)
Main Route: 80km – 50mi
Total Ascent: 1800m – 5900ft
After a 1,5 hour bus transfer to Valle d’Aosta, we will ride up to Cervinia via the Col de san Pantaleon.  A beautifully scenic ride after which we’ll see a mountain top arrival for the Giro at 2000m.

Day Nine – Cervinia to Colle delle Finestre – transfer to Torino (Giro Stage)
Main Route: 100km – 62mi
Total Ascent: 1600m – 5300ft
We will transfer to Torino by van and then ride through the Val di Susa to the epic Col delle Finestre with its 10km of unsealed road!  What a stage … after this climb, they have to climb to Sestriere as well!  We will then ride back to Torino and enjoy this beautiful city.

Day Ten – Torino to Milano by bike & train (Giro Stage)
Main Route: 45km – 28mi
Total Ascent: 400m – 1300ft
We’ll ride in the morning to watch the start in Torino and then catch a train to Milano to watch the final sprint and celebrate the 2015 Giro Winner!
